Our Voice sessions are underway!
Last month saw Our Voice’s first learning session kick off at Canterbury, Bankstown and Burwood Child and Family Interagency Sector Wide Seminar.
Conducted by Lived Experience Educator (LEE) Abbey Lotfi, the response from attendees was emphatically positive with representatives from community sector organisations and disability service providers stating that the session:
“Gave the NDIS more of a ‘real’ feel, revealing how CALD parents feel prior to NDIS access.”
“Highlighted how social isolation/language barriers can impede on accessing the right support.”
“Showed the importance of supporting CALD families, ensuring they are linked to services for both parents and individuals with disability.”
These responses show just how valuable these learning activities can be in highlighting access barriers and the importance of adopting a more culturally responsive framework in tailoring services.
