Creating learning and development pathways together
The guiding principles for the Our Voice project are person-centred practice, trauma informed response and purposeful storytelling. From its conception, the project intended to co-design a learning and development program and a structure for learning activities together with the Lived Experience Educators (LEEs).
LEEs began collaborating with the project team in December 2018, resulting in a program of core training that included education on culture and access, purposeful storytelling and business administration and compliance, as well as the co-design of learning activities.
This core training is complemented by 1:1 coaching sessions that address specific skills development requirements from each of the LEEs. The collaborative approach of Our Voice has enabled each of the LEEs to play an active role in creating their own learning and development pathways.
To date, each LEE has undertaken 42 hours of training, and is now ready to share their experience, skills and knowledge with mainstream disability service providers.
